Exciting Stuff happening, for your perusal.

Exciting Stuff #1.
Our song “Oh, Death!” was played on WFMU today. Thanks, Irene Trudell. And thanks, Robbie Eckman for notifying us while we were away from the radio tubes. It’s a small victory, but it makes us feel fancy and good. If you’re not familiar with FMU, familiarize yourself with it. It’s easy to listen online if you’re not local, and it is always something new. It’s just an amazing independent radio that plays more variety than probably any other station in… I’d bet, the universe. Give them your money.

Exciting Stuff #2.
We’ve had our first cover song recorded, to our knowledge anyway. Check out Ar Hur’s version of Twice Today… it’s a totally unique and unexpected treatment. We met Ar Hur’s own Travis Pottle long ago at a show at SUNY Purchase, and he’s since been to almost as many shows as Jocelyn’s Mom. Maybe more. And he lives in Virginia. Really. Love his music. It’s weird. Good weird.

As you might already know our very own Emily Hope Price is writing a song a day for 365 days. It’s aptly named The 365 Day Project. Anywho, Pearl and the Beard helped her write a song for day 29. This is it. Lyrics provided by our friend Jon Barker. And if you’re wondering who that handsome fellow is on the side, that’s our hype man, Mios Dio. A.K.A, Jeremy’s roommate.

Thanks so much to all of you who came out to the show last night at Mercury Lounge. The show was sold out to capacity, and we only have you to thank for it! Team Genius and Xylos played awesome sets, and we’re so grateful we got to be a part of of such a solid lineup. Extra thanks to their fans who happened to come a little bit early in the night and who happened to enjoy us! We really had a great time playing and debuting two new songs for you… leave us a comment and let us know what you thought.

We also want to give a huge thanks to the spectacular Mr. Jim Altieri for accompanying us on accordion and violin. Not only is he a multi-talented instrumentalist, but he’s also a phenomenal composer. He wrote all the string arrangements on our album “God Bless Your Weary Soul, Amanda Richardson,” and it was so great to have him up on stage with us interpreting those parts on new instruments. Now, some of you up in the front row last night may have noticed it before she did, but about halfway through “The Lament of Coronado Brown,” the brushes of Jocelyn’s right snare brush simply fell out of their handle. The brush literally disintegrated in her hands. The only proper response to this… WHAT THE?! As a novice drummer, Jocelyn was completely perplexed. Have any of you drummers ever experienced this? And what can we do to prevent this sort of thing from happening again? Leave us a comment below with your ideas… any technique pointers or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Lastly, big ups to DJ Jazzy Jon Clark on omnichord during “I Can’t See Anything.” That dude can’t see anything without his glasses.

That’s right, friends… the day has come! Turns out we’re on a bill with a bunch of our old friends. It’s a small world, and what better way to celebrate the glory of of our punitive nature than stage diving? If enough people grace the floor tonight, Jocelyn promises to stage dive into the sea of your bodies. Will you be there to witness this potential lethal comic blunder? You decide!

Oh yes. It’s true. Pearl and the Beard’s own Emily Hope Price has decided to take on the unimaginable. She’s writing and recording a song every day for the next 365 of them… and posting them to her blog HERE.

As of today, she’s gotten 18 songs under her belt, available online for your listening pleasure. Enjoy going back throughout the tracks and hearing which ones you most closely relate to. Leave her a comment, pass on some encouragement, become a part of it.

What amazes me most about this project, as a musician and as a human creature, is that she’s refusing to settle for less than what she’s capable of. Sure, she may only be on Day 18, and by the time we hit July she might just be recording herself blowing raspberries into the microphone. But in reality, she’s simply forcing herself to stretch her boundaries, through both the technical process of recording and the self-humbling process of constantly writing, and she’s earnestly striving to reach above and beyond her potential. Every song is different, and every song has its own personality. We can’t wait to hear what the year has yet to come!
